These are Stromboli (l) and Basiluzza (r), two of the Lipari Islands off the north coast of Sicily. Stromboli is an active volcano. Unfortunately Stromboli was covered in mist when I climbed it, but we heard the volcano booming--even though we couldn't see a thing!
