"Bastian knew that if he was to succeed he would need help. Anxiously he waited in the shadows of the old, rotting shed for the arrival of a man whose skill and wisdom he held in awe and whose reputation rolled before him like a tidal wave. The loud rumbling of a powerful engine grew closer, splitting the silence like an axe through a log of wood, and Bastian's heart began pounding like the sound of fast-moving hooves on a hard surface on a crisp frosty morning.

"At that moment the full moon disappeared behind a dark, stormy cumulus cloud, throwing a bewildered Bastian into complete darkness. A large barn owl hooted shrilly behind him, and he just managed to stifle a scream from deep within a chest which was as hollow as an empty 44 gallon drum. Then, with a squeal of tyres and a splatter of gravel, he was there.

"The tall, dark, handsome man with a cleft in his chin and a scar on his right cheek the shape of a ripe banana, strode from his pale green Holden, a sweat towel draped loosely over rippling muscles like a badge of honour. Bastian was gobsmacked, not just by his visitor's physique, but by the aura of power and confidence that surrounded him.

"Nervously Bastian stepped forward to offer the man his sweaty palm. The visitor's grip was iron-like and Bastian's mind rushed back to the instructions he'd left for Liana to not leave the kitchen, lest she be drawn to this man's magnetism like so many women before.

"Smoothly the visitor strode to the back of his car and effortlessly lifted a large tool box from deep within the trunk. Bastian hugged himself with joy. The waiting had all been worth it. At last he had a SHEARER."
