Thief With No Shadow cover
Emily Gee
his is a review from SFX Magazine, June 2007.

"It's no surprise that Emily Gee comes from a writing family. Reading the tantalising first page of Thief shows that this is no ordinary debut novel: the author is skilled enough to be beguiling in just five paragraphs. That first page introduces Melke, a wraith. She should be invisible but somehow there's a huge snarling hound at the the base of the tree she's stuck in that can see her--and it wants a stolen necklace back...

"Written in light airy prose, Thief is an addictive story. These are ordinary people facing some dangerous problems. There's oodles of angst as Melke realises the consequences of her well-intentioned theft; and ladles of tension when she realises how little time she has to put things right. Pleasingly standalone, gorgeously indulgent and hopelessly romantic."

nd Juliet McKenna at SFRevu posted a long and detailed review of Thief With No Shadow. Here are a couple of quotes, or you can read the full review here.

"Asked to define good fantasy fiction, most people will imagine tales of kings and princes and the subtle affairs of wizards in lofty towers, all embellished with rich culture, language and myth that's frequently established by way of lengthy preliminaries to the main tale. Emily Gee's excellent debut novel is proof that turning this template on its head can be superbly effective."

"I read this with enjoyment and admiration and await Emily Gee's next book with keen anticipation."
